The Jackson Center Rescue Squad was formed in 1975. The rescue squad was founded when 40 people came to an organizational meeting at the Jackson Center Community Club on November 5, 1975. Hershel Wright was elected president.
The first training session, taught by paramedic Bruce Botkins, was completed May 5, 1976, with 22 people finishing.
Fifteen days later, the squad made its first rescue run, when a worker caught his hands in a brake machine at Henschen Industrial.
During the blizzard of 1978, the members of the squad helped a local doctor deliver two babies.
The rescue squad received its first ambulance from the county, and later bought a back-up vehicle for $800.
The squad was housed in the village Safety Building until 1989, when the village put up its current building.
Today, most of its funding comes from a fee it charges for each run. The squad also holds occasional fund-raisers, and periodically seeks a levy for a new ambulance.
